Are you interested in learning about the UC Merced Police Department? Would you like to know more about law enforcement and how it relates to your everyday life?

The UC Merced Police Department is offering a free ten-week Citizen Police Academy. Topics to be discussed include:

- The law enforcement hiring process
- Community Policing
- The Criminal Justice System
- Use of Force
- DUI Investigation
- High Tech Crimes/Internet Safety
- Domestic Violence
- Sexual Assaults

Participants will also participate in scenarios and a ride-along with a UCMPD officer.

Applicants must complete an application and brief letter of interest. All applicants must be 18 years of age on or prior to the first class session. Applicants must not have felony convictions or outstanding warrants. Applicants must also not be on parole or probation. All applicants will be screened to determine whether they meet the requirements to participate in the academy.

The academy is open to UC Merced students, staff and the public. Eligible applicants will be accepted on a first come-first serve basis with priority being given to eligible UC Merced students who apply.
