Police Insight Program

The UC Merced Police Department offers a free 6-week Police Insight Program.  This is a unique opportunity to interact with every police officer at UCMPD.  Come meet us and learn how your campus police serve your community!

  • Hiring standards & process
  • Overview of criminal justice system
  • Use of force
  • Social media cases
  • Radar experience on Lake/Bellevue to guess how fast drivers are going
  • DUI drunk goggles- see how driving at .08 is dangerous
  • Fingerprinting
  • Hands on traffic stops

Who is eligible to apply?

The program is open to UC Merced students, staff, and faculty

Applicants must be 18 years old on or before the first class session.

Applicants must not have felony convictions or outstanding warrants.*

Applicants must not be on parole or probation.*

*The background check and these other qualifications are due to the fact that participants will have limited access to some sensitive information during the course of the program.

When (SPRING 2022)

UCMPD remains hopeful the program will resume in Spring 2022 when it can be offered in person to gather participants interested in learning more!

  2. Write a brief letter of interest.
  3. Complete the application.
